Mirrored Tunnel Vision

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Today’s headlines are a constant reminder that the blinders of self-importance are becoming more sophisticated each new decade. The law of common sense suggests singular reflection ad infinitum will ultimately become distant and dark, resulting in its own opaque nothingness. (Image by Yayoi Kusama)

Poem Artwork
Mirrored Tunnel Vision
by Odin Roark

How attentive their focus
on being right,
negating errors,
oblivious of the lessons awaiting.

Smilingly

They persuade those without need,
praise others to realize agendas,
offer affections to mask their own pain.

Fearfully

They hoard the bounty,
hide their secrets,
lest they betray their cowardice,
while others live beside dumpster survival.

Carefully

They prepare their person,
perfume their pores of guilt,
parade their masquerade aglow,
present their razor sharp creases.

Dishonestly

They walk with an insipid aura of calm,
assuming impunity even as they create
consuming torrents beneath their feet
an effort to drown all who resist.

Survival

Requires defeating the solipsists in lock step
as they invent yet their next delusion of immortality,
their mirrored tunnel vision rapidly narrowing into
a very exclusive and perverse infinity.

As I read, I enjoyed the leading words used as titles and wonder if, as a couple of the commenters have alluded to, whether those reading your admonition would even know that you are writing about them.

But then, writing about them is never writing about us, right?

I would imagine solipsism goes out the window every time each of us reads and responds to another's work. A mysterious image of the debates above too, IMO. Shadows surrounded by stardust. Thought-provoking, Odinsan. Clear cogitations. Peace to you... r

I love the way you raise issues that need reflection through a point of grammar, last time through the use of the question, this time through the use of the adverb. We are on semester break, otherwise I would definitely show my students to emphasize a point. Beyond that, you lay bare the illusion, the myth, the self-importance, indeed the arrogance beautifully, devistatingly. Too bad those who need to read this won't. Keep at it and thanks for your insight on my work.

Reading this, today of all days, just blew me away! It touches me in so many different ways, on so many levels. Perfect timing, my friend.
