A poem of many years ago seems to fit well with my aging experience. My adopted Spartan existence is rife with thankfulness. (Image by Diane Diederich)

BLESSÉD
by Odin Roark
CURSÉD ARE THE BIRTHS
that make up their dreams,
that never quite come true ,
except in their dreams.
CURSÉD ARE THE DREAMS
that live for their birth,
that wait to be fertile,
that accept not the dawn.
CURSÉD ARE THE DAWNS
that refuse to shine brightly,
that refuse to give birth,
that refuse to grant dreams.
BUT BLESSÉD ARE THE DEATHS
that accepted the unlived births,
that demanded not of dreams,
that allowed life’s many dawns.
