Poem Artwork
Mating Fate
by Odin Roark

One can travel from ocean
To mountain,
To outer space,

But…

Love that lasts is usually
but a step backwards into
that place that was once
void of agendas.

A place that knows well
the growth of a tree,
the daily opening of flowers,
the frosted grass of winter,
the assimilation of both focus and appreciation.
the simple and magical perfection of Nature
if we will but pay attention and often, get over ourselves.

Love is not pursued.
Love is not trophy bragging.
Love is what has become alien to far too many…
Respect first,
Love next,
Lasting commitment last.

Of course…

The above is difficult to achieve
given all the resources convincing too many
that infatuation,
one night stands,
a flight to Paris,
is romantic,
therefore,
love.

Mating fate is not an exclusive New Age maxim,
but is housed in a well-protected reliance on calculated risk.

But, beware of chance’s roll of the dice.

Ignoring time, providence cannot be fooled.

Male or female,
we can only try to fool fate.

"We can only try to fool fate," but fate ends up fooling us. But this poem it about love intertwined with fate which is, as you say, "what has become alien to far too many." John
