3 in 1 Sanity Today

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

An Executive order stops refugees form coming into the US if they’re from the six countries named, all of which have never had an act of US terrorism credited to them. Such an order begs the question: Is the moral high ground a supernatural bestowed gift, or is it a learned process of working through the id (instincts) ego the (realistic self-image of one’s personality,) or the super-ego mediating between te desires of the id and super-ego?) such continues the process of becoming fully human? The generally perceived understanding of moral high ground in ethical or political parlance, refers to the status of being respected for remaining moral, and adhering to and upholding a universally recognized standard of justice or goodness. Poem Artwork
3 in 1 Sanity
by Odin Roark

And what of this consideration,
this disturbance,
a clash of confronting wills
moving with the flow,
even as options beg attention.

The 1 of sanity…

just as clouds might burst,
so too the boiling kettle
may spew its residual,
the whistle warning,
like lightning afar,
the eruption may be near.

What of our own gray and black passing over,
the pressure never blowing,
accepting no,
understanding maybe,
considering yes.

Disturbance is nature’s playful nature,
presenting unpredictable patterns of behavior
for it to know, for us to explore

YESTERDAY, disturbance waited…

while Nature reinvents itself continually,
knowing well the human mind,
Freud’s 3 in 1 sanity
plays upon one’s own psyche.

Patterns connect,
dismantle,
find new tributaries,
all for the quest
to accept,
understand,
or perhaps remain anesthetized.

Oh, to sleep,
to escape incessant profundity of reason,
while crickets voice
a lull for the void.

But…

Struggle we must
to vanquish this nightmarish noise,
allow angelic melody its rightful time,
stifle echoes unbridled,
breathe deep the purified air of repose.

When sleep is deprived,
restless racket abounds,
one’s solipsistic quicksand
forever remains the glue,
while solvents of truth
struggle to dissolve.

TODAY, disturbance continues to wait…

A morning’s sunlight
breaks curtained exile, as crickets sleep, alarm bells beckon,
and our programing responds.

Awakened,
actions once more warrant thought.
This voice,
now loud at the dog,
next screeching at traffic,
followed by outburst at fellow workers.

Anything to escape,
so we speak loud,
sometimes nonsense,
sometimes warnings,
other times acquiescence
anything to trigger some calm.

For…

Just as some would believe
Freud’s id cares not of ego’s comfort,
it nevertheless remains aware that ego either patronizes
or accepts superego’s moral compass.

Yes…

Freud thought he had the answer,
but alas, in such a world
das es thinks little of
das ich,
and das über-ich seldom is awakened.

TOMORROW disturbance anxiously waits…

To either conquer
or surrender,
all for a contemporary time
where absent morals,
ethics,
and simple decency,
all around us are narcissist-id-smothered superegos,
reason and conscience remaining struggling against the tide,
for disturbance continues waiting with a modicum of hope.

Although I studied Freud a bit long ago, I have forgotten much. Still as I read your poem I sense that you are struggling along with me why people are acting the way they are to the situations that we face--especially with such polarizing ideals. As Richard suggests and history proves, there is a kind of pendulum swing going back and forth and neither side of the coin is exactly the right answer. Yes, there is a modicum of hope that we can come to consensus on some things.

A polarizing write that vibrates with angst. Personally I see it for what it is. A momentary pause (that was implemented badly) to open up the system, thoroughly analyze it, fix what needs to be fixed, and then re-implement a better, and safer, system. Fiery words. Still... "a modicum of hope' is good, Odin. Better than no hope. Peace... r
