Consideration while viewing a video of dust settling on attic cobwebs, one can’t help but see the allegorical irony in Carl Sagan’s famous poster of the cosmos and the tiny dot representing earth: “You are here.” Yes, we are. Nowhere else. (Image by Shutterstock)

Ever-present Shimmers
To be that
which knows from where it came,
knows the reality of hard past experience
whose residual it now imbues with reflection
is but light beams bathing
in floating detachments freed,
coming to rest on silent seas of peace.
To know laughter by way of hardened experience
before it can relax into ripples of solitude,
is to know there’s so much more to be learned.
Oh, to accept such an ancient smile,
as 380 million years of eight-legged innocence does,
folding into compliance when necessary,
awaiting and dreaming,
just as a web of dust mite's next iteration
knows existence is ever unpredictable.
Such is the ever-present shimmer
in continuum's non-stop existence.
Love ya!
Jane
Even the spider that weaves the web that catches the dust that the dust mite eats is the product of 380 million years, much more than we are.
Ron
Incidentally, the dust mite doesn't eat dust, it eats skin. That would make it probably younger than spiders.
