We have reached the point of needing to call a "Mayday." For our ship is in deep trouble on a sea of every man for himself. As I try to assess the uncompassionate mind of the naysayers, your reference to McCain trying to pull people together is very appropriate. I think that we have a great many people who have an innate fear growing within them from what they hear that they don't want to hear… The warning signs of eminent collapse of civilization as we know it. Their response is to draw in and to throw up walls to every potential threat with the threat of force far greater than ever would be needed. A kind of overreaction that matches our overconsumption and over-the-top wanting lifestyles.

That compass is broken. McCain knew that. Why can't so many see it as well.
