Hey there!

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Sometimes, you just have to tap into your silly side to keep from going mad. Such a cliché, such an annoyance, but they all do it. Politicians, you need to cut that f*****g finger off before you point at someone who’s as tired of it all as we are.

Hey There!

In that nighttime dream I’ll probably never have,
there’s this…

"Finger, finger in the air,
who’s the idiot winkin’ there?"

As if we should be impressed.
As if they know somebody we should know.
As if “Hey, how’s it goin’,” I should care.

Give me substance,
not “I’m so popular,”
or
“I’m supposed to point,
even if there’s nobody there.”

Here’s what to do…

Have dinner with Hannibal.
Let him wine you to sleep,
then hack off that digit of yours,
serve it to you for desert,
and even as you awaken,
staring wide eyed at the missing pointy “thing,”
you can always try some honesty,
like, “What the f…k! Where’s my finger?”
He’ll give you an honest reply. “Bon appetit!"

At least Hannibal doesn’t practice
pretensions there, right?

Yes, you have taken up something I have also noticed, that friggin' finger pointing at an individual in a crowd of thousands, as though the finger-pointer were almighty and omnipotent. Hillary brought this to a fine art by accompanying her intimate gesture with a knowing smile and a gentle nod, as if she were conveying a secret hidden message to the one blessed. After all, everyone must be thinking she is pointing at them. The gesture is a vote-getter. Love your poem (again).

"but they all do it."

Happy that, although you showed Trumps photo, you at least said, "but they all do it." Refreshing, Odin.
