Moribund Compass

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Everyday provides many reasons to find humankind off course, given far too much of our world continues to wallow in the leadership of delusional narcissists. (Image by pinterest)

Poem Artwork

Moribund Compass

How tenuous the direction

How precarious the choice

How desolate the self-condemnation.

So drifts the disintegration

Of man’s moral compass.

True conscience

Has been tricked

By the mesmeric pull of delusion.

What happened to our innate true north of principles?

That direction that guaranteed we could find ourselves

Even when forces tried to shroud us in falsehood?

Pity the many now misled

In a mind-complacency of servitude,

Synaptic rhythm in chaos,

The sense of right and wrong

Afloat in a nether land of lostness.

Yet…

Some of us know the path needs not

Someone else’s direction,

Another’s command.

The fortunate have cast the moribund compass aside,

Choosing instead the oft times lonely venture

Into the true north of genuineness by instinct.

This would be easy if life was black and white, but life is full of gray. Things change as society change.s What was considered wrong years back, has changed into acceptance by society today. We do need a moral compass, but since everyone is different, is there really a true north. And those that do, lack tolerance due to the rigidity of their beliefs. What works for one, may not work for another. We need two moral compasses, an individual one, and one for society as a whole.

Your words scream to those who are so easily fooled to "wake up" and use their God given minds already! "Toy Story" depicts them well in the scene where all the little yellow prizes look up and say "The claw!". They are mindless, for heaven's sake! Oh, how I could go on!

Love ya!

Theologians and philosophers have been pondering this point since the dawn of human reason. What is instinct? Human conscience? The imprint of God on humanity? Great questions.

Enjoying Echosis:) Lots to think about. Blessings.

And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. So says scripture. monkey see monkey do, one might say. Very interesting poem.

An interesting "take" using the symbol of the compass. In a sense, I think everyone need to find their own compass that lies within and with that then fine "the true north of genuineness" you mentioned at the end, by their own innate instinct.
