Light Receding

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

- One can either fear passing, or embrace the next version of light’s illumination for us. Buddhists believe in a cycle of death and rebirth called samsara. Through karma and eventual enlightenment, they hope to escape samsara and achieve nirvana, an end to suffering.

Light Receding

As light recedes,

mind’s eye discovers new visions.

Fear, once dark,

finds its disappearance puzzling.

One’s inner-self drifts toward unspoken words,

where suddenly a being is one with

the heron and the hen,

mountain beasts and ocean fish,

serpent ghosts and nightmares past.

As light recedes,

one’s madness finds nobility with discord,

adjustments in argument as mere contrasting query

and shadows becoming walls to assist closure.

As light recedes,

remembrances of stormy discourse

vanish into night clouds protecting their moon

while awaiting tomorrow’s permanent relief.

Light recedes further

when the passing of the self suffers

its final tearless night

and dawn brings all-natural shapes of the cosmos

into blazing unfamiliar light,

releasing ashes to be one with the oneness,

free in the weeping winds,

drifting to the next iteration of continuance.

Nirvana reaching.

Your words just took me through something really "moving" and amazing to "behold", Odin! It's probably going to be a "trip" and our souls, our energy, will take its new form maybe? Please remain seated til the ride is through! Thought provoking write!!

Love ya!

Jane

A loose remembrance of something Ernest Hemingway said: "Every persons life ends the same way. It is only the details of how we've each lived, and how we've died, that distinguish one person from another." For each of us, after we pass, what we encounter and are given, is what we've inherited from the choices we made in these bodies. Enjoyed your thoughts. Peace... r

I only hope that when it's my time, I can go out with dignity.
