Night Mystery

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

For many writers, the night is a blessing/curse. Somehow the quiet of darkness gives birth to both creativity and, unfortunately for some, destructivity. (Image by pinterest)

Poem Artwork

Night Mystery

How intimate

These small friends of the night

Stubby pencil

Dog-eared notebook

The table and chair’s lure

Where the lamp’s welcoming circle of light

Beckons my two-edged sword return.

The contact of my scrolling to your paper

Reminds me of how little I regard the darkened room

The darkened apartment building

The darkened streets below,

As you openly welcome me to share

Into the absorption of the notebook-paper’s secrecy.

How comforting this struggle

For without you

I’d only exist as a reflection in the black windowpane

Drifting into naked streets of echoing siren-emergencies

Where one’s heart and mind are usually cursed by victimization

Or gifted with lessons to be learned

Later to be eulogized in you

My passionate notebook.

I wish I had a Nickle for every time I had to get up and write after I had gone to bed. I even got a small digital recorder that I keep by my bed to use when that night time inspiration hits.

Indeed, there is something about the night, which you are here described, that attracts the writer. I have turned into an early morning poet, and like nothing better than getting up with the birds and just letting my mind roam with the wind and the breeze. That's when I now do most of my writing, with perhaps fine-tuning later in the day.
