Fidelity’s Promise
In the beginning…
Life, as we wanted, was at our doorstep
Fresh strawberries and cream for the morning’s greeting
Sunlight aplenty
Dreams of our walking on the seashore naked
Along the way…
There were evenings when we truly found ourselves
When unsure of the future was our high
Like tragic actors on a set afire
While eagles of destiny circling overhead
As the dark solemnity of a still pine forest
Shrouded every stream of passage slippery with the thrill of chance
Still…
Always we sipped wine in our terrace of the stars
Where fate reminded us there could be unhappy endings
If we peered at the clouds of human weakness too long
As the rest of our dreams bathed in calm seas and mild breezes
Then…
As reality beckoned
We gazed upon the starless night
As we both lit our candles of naked flames
Accompanying us into the nocturnal ecstasy
Of sharing the gathering clouds
Knowing love abides not by darkness
But the patient light of fidelity’s promise
Love ya!
