A Willow Tree’s Lament
Her ache
Touches me
Like a run-away train
Longing to be of meandering stream
Her voice
A soft echo
The timbre of past life remembering
Its movement a willow tree's lament
She walks
Paths unseen by most
Holding my hand
Maternal nature unbound
When sleeping
The quiet of her breath
Weaves thatched cover
Securing my storm-filled dreams
Upon awakening
My mind begs the heart calm
My spirit fearful of day's dawning
She beckons I return to her side
Stroking my cheek
Assuring me
There be no light out there
Not already within me
What healing comfort
This lifetime
Before her/my eyes

Weeping willows are certainly caressable but they don't give one a hug like mammals love to do. I can see observing one might help one's perspective on life. But they are rather short-lived for a three and often damaged by storms. Not a good example of strength and resilience.

If wine is your secret, tell us more...
there be no light out there

Lines like this that raise the level of the verse to more than what it is. A tender, lilting poem that fills the heart.
