Storms of the heart and mind come and go until the final torrent of dissonance appears. (Image Fine Art America)

Poem Artwork

Lighthouse Waning

How strong

The once guiding light

When the inclement weather of the mind

Was soothed by the heart’s beam

When unexpected winds did howl

When tempest warnings did not abate

How steady did the light of warning remain

‘Twas the captain of the mast-less vessel

That allowed the buffeting and swells of darkness

To crash his stalwart courage into but splinters of mistakes

Survival on the shores of new ventures

Such irony.

I get your irony. In spite of all we do to make things right, sometimes they are perceived as wrong, wrongly. As a result, we must weather the storm, and hope that our dimmed lighthouse beacon is seen and followed to safety rather than crashing on the deadly rocks.

This concise work is truly loaded. The concept I most perceive is reliance gone awry through mistaken perseverance. “To crash his stalwart courage into but splinters of mistakes.” That is huge; “splinters of mistakes” — that cries out with emotional shrapnel, Odin. It is the last two lines that carry the mystery. And potential switch of fate, I feel. Very keen return to the typewriter in this one I see. Tell more of that story. ~~ djl

I like the image of the lighthouse and its symbolic meaning. I have used it myself a few times.
