Heart and Mind Marriage
Weathering currents
from birth’s ebb
to aging’s tide.
From embryo on,
purging upon the rocks of reality
brings many uninvited necessities.
Out of the womb,
we're held high,
slapped,
smiled at,
and smothering us with assurance
we’re alive.
Oh, how generously we’re
Cuddled,
pampered,
protected,
educated,
extricated from family protection,
exonerated of past mistakes,
and finally thrust toward the unknown.
Then…
And only then,
one feels the real weathering,
when currents unpredictable
dash one between waves
and lapping shorelines.
Oh how dependable the heart,
when plunged into foreign waters,
where coming of age,
and the merciless reality of awakening,
often beneath the mind’s darkest depths,
finds maturing a constant gasping for air,
gradually realizing wisdom waits in silent repose,
a flesh and blood catharsis of our frustrating struggle.
To be denied such resolve,
is to not know of infinite breath,
the conviction that another kind of existence
is forever at the ready to begin.
Heart and mind exchange vows
knowing the allowance of time
gently casts the ashes of fate to the wind
in order to prepare us for the next chapter
of passion’s infinite pulsations
undulating up beside fathomless lessons.
this reminds me, in one of Joseph Murphy's books that said, the heart is the subconscious as the translation in the Bible. and everytime i read what the Yogis, Sufis, and other mystics wrote abt the heart, it makes sense that there can be no sepration.
Near the end of the poem I sense reaching a higher level of thought that really is the ecstasy of being where whether the heart continues to pump or not, the mind is secure in its thoughts until it ends.
