Need

With a populace that suffers with a preponderance of not being wanted, the idea of creating a value in oneself that makes one needed as a form of constructive empathy for another
is exercising humanness.

Poem Artwork

Need

Life’s perpetual race

Knows well the reason

Need must surpass want.

One may not be wanted,

But what if they are needed?

Such is the driving force

For many empaths.

To be abandoned

May not be pejorative,

But to compensate by

Creating a need for your being

Is recognizing compassion as a productive effort

Enabling humanness to dominate.

So often…

It takes but merely one other individual

Who responds to sincerity of purpose

To make a difference in an unappreciated soul.

Empathy for someone else’s pain need not be quantitative,

But, oh so qualitative is its mission.

Your introductory line is stunning…”..makes one needed as a form of constructive empathy for another….”. I love that. ~~ djl

I so agree. What good does it do to despise the least among us. Why do people who call themselves Christians and then, don't act like Christ?

I watched as Poland,, particularly, and a couple of other countries like Hungary and Romania, take in Ukrainian refugees without question and provide for them in their own homes. Most of those refugees will return home to their battered country and rebuild, forever grateful for empathetic people who gave them a break from their fear and their flight.

Compare that with Syria where refugees sure to be killed by a mad Syrian president. Who sacrificed their lives crossing the Mediterranean. Many losing all of their wealth if they had any along the way. Over a million are still in refugee camps in Jordan. More in Turkey.

In this country there's a lot of talk and political wrangling, but the people in the streets are growing, and refugees are being stopped at the border by wall building and hatred from good Americans only one or two generations away were starving immigrants looking for a break and got it.

Such is the bifurcated soul. Too often east is east, and west is west--and ne're the twain shall meet. But you have shown a lot of light on the gap. So well expressed, as usual.

You touch upon the tension that exists between wanting and needing, an interesting theme worthy of exploration.
