Love's Pursuit

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Keenness of insight and judgment with Love’s conundrum of compassion, empathy, and trust, seems for many but a never-ending journey of disappointment. Yet for many of us, the experience: “Better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all” is but a beginning with no end. Artists often suggest Love amongst humankind is an enigma, a theme often pursued through surreal art. (Image by Dali)

Poem Artwork

Love’s Pursuit

So many ways to love

So few ways to be love

So precarious the reach to make contact

So tenuous the grasp once attained

So covetous Ego’s will to own

Even as honor can be felt

When veracity diverts insecurity’s obsession to control

Such continues the longing

 Only love’s purity can appease

Much wisdom in such a small space...
Like a beautiful flower protected by thorns
Like the will to own tempered by the obsession to control
Like longing without the satisfaction of love.

Succinctly pointing out love's enigma. Nicely done. And love certainly can be as surreal as a painting of that genre.

It's like magic how I am so loved. Before that, only my mother loved me beyond the infatuation that I felt some had for me but wouldn't cross the line into commitment. Now I have that commitment and is almost overwhelming, because I want to set her free. Give her the retirement freedom she doesn't have tending to me 24/7.

I've been watching the Golden Bachelor near its end and find that Gerry, the 71-year-old widower has become very emotional, especially when trying to choose from three finalists when almost every one of them could have shared their life with him, had he let them.

I just don't see myself ever being that emotional.

A point of interest: I have been withdrawn from AD services because I couldn't renew my yearly fee, the end of an era after more than 20 years. I can no longer post, send messages, etc. Thank you for your advice and support over the years. Until my fortunes turn, as in the story of Joseph with lean and plentiful years, I bid you God-speed and farewell. John
