Gratitude is Everything

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

“I would love to live like a river flows, carried by the surprise of its own unfolding.” -- John O’Donohue (poet)
It would seem our world is living out its existence as if in a bubble that will never pop. How rewarding it is to know one is not wanting, but satisfied with what he or she has got… including the full ownership of self.

Gratitude is Everything

Everything he needs

He gets from…

Pantry

Stove

Fridge

Books

Fresh air

A warm bed

Hot and cold showers

Music

Word challenges

TV of worth

Computer

Keyboard

Electric Piano

His 26-year-old SUV

40+ years of photography

80+ years of living a full-court swish of the basket

Eventually…

The fortunate

Realize they appreciate what they have

Abandoning the thought that more of something

Is bliss

Gratitude being an attitudes that many never really fully come to terms with. We all have our ups and downs, it's part of the human condition, but we should never forgo feelings of gratitude for the basics that we require and usually have, such as health, well-being, friendship, love, fulfilling work and the like. "The fortunate realize they appreciate what they have", fortunate indeed.

There is nothing more realistic than accepting the way things are. Or honest, for that matter. As we age, it is better to become happy with our situation and share our joy of it with others. It does us no good to complain of our plight and sink into blame.

You have written before that it is self-actualization. It is best to start early in life setting high goals and working for them but also, a place where one can slow down and just enjoy being, knowing that one cannot accomplish everything originally sought when the mind was young and everything seemed possible.

A very needed and appropriate posting for this day, Odin. So much happening in that man’s face. So much appreciation in your roster of gratitudes. Less in more when less is enough. Thank you ~~ djl
