A Whispered Legacy

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

What one leaves behind in moving on into the unknown is often addressed with glee, and at times, with disappointment on the part of receivers. Occasionally, there are the survivors who receive a memoir of probity that continues to live on.

A Whispered Legacy

A life lived with purpose,

Is forever ready to transgress mortality,

For one’s remembrance remains a reality for the aware

When honesty of intention has remained true

To one’s inner compass for meaningful direction.

Meaning…

For some might depend on opulence shared

It might also be worthy of legacy identification beyond dollar-value

Such might be the intangible.

A value void of being corporeal.

Discovering…

One’s route,

One’s connection to purpose,

The altruistic venture

Requiring no sacrifice of integrity

For the sake of monetary gain,

Often leads to anonymity’s majesty.

Accepting…

One’s place,

Fearing not the stumbles,

The falls,

The disappointments,

The seemingly rugged path

That one’s personal journey might have risked,

Reaches the summit of one’s integrity,

And planting the flag of truth,

Takes celebratory rest from an unyielding life,

 Whispering an honorarium to creation.

How exquisite this legacy never short of worth.

May all those called to create have the courage to continue taking risks, the strength to be compassionate with others as we do, and the wisdom to remain humble. Rumi proffered: "It's your road, and yours alone. Others can walk it with you, but they can never walk it for you." Amen. Perhaps courage with integrity is the foundation of moral soundness. Thanks for sharing. Enjoyed. r

You make a valuable and oft-forgotten point in this poem: long-lost integrity in the modern world and the purposes in life that maintain it. I especially loke you stanza following "Discovering" for this is the crux of it, the "connection to purpose" and especially "the altruistic venture requiring no sacrifice of integrity." So true, brother, brother and so forgotten in today's world.
