Giving birth to a dream that now must face reality is of rare value to some.

Birth’s Rewarding Moment

A window
Chair
Table
Paper and pen

Exhausted eyes open
Light passes through
Revealing imagination's kingdom
Where innocence of vision
Constructs reality's alternate states

Instinct rejoices
Inviting fearless abandon
Abolition of doubt
Becomes trust's reward

A sudden breeze
Makes restless the paper
Arresting pen's attention
Beckoning ideas to flow

Eyes gather more light
Urging ink's furrowed lines and space
Across waiting landscape
Tilled grounding embraces syllabic seeds
Eager to grow
Anticipating harvest to nourish other imaginings
Where the most arid of minds will moisten
Provide conception and development
Perpetuate linguistic fertility

Only destiny knows of full-term
As gestation differs from mode to mode
But writers know birth's rewarding moment
Creation's initial cry
One's first draft

It’s so enjoyable when you write about writing, Odin. Your capability to make your words ‘breathe’ is a marvel. My favorite line here is “Perpetuate linguistic fertility”. I hope you will write more about writing — as Natalie Goldberg encourages us, in her book ‘Writing Down The Bones,’ — write beyond your stopping point. And for me, that act brings out the best kind of writing… taking that pen and making circles of sketchy inflow…until it ‘really gets going.’ Ahhh. ~~ djl

A deep and unique gaze on inspiration. What a strong pen, Odin.

You share more than most, Odin. Based on that, I can only assume that most of your first drafts make it to the final editing stage, and then you share them with the public. For me, 60-70% of my first drafts are trashed. I only share 7-10% of what I do. I've been that way since I was a kid. I have this funny yellow light/green light thing in me. As it is, the yellow light blinks far more often than the green light does. Thanks for sharing. Enjoyed your insight. rlc

Ah indeed, the miracle of the first draft, the miracle of writing, the miracle of creation. Such a mysterious wonder.
