Generosity
A battle rages, unseen, unheard
In the ever-active chambers of the heart.
Generosity, with open hands,
Offers warmth, a gentle touch,
Illuminating the darkest times.
Selfishness, with clenched fists,
Holds tight to shadows,
Guarding its treasures,
Building walls, high and cold,
Against the needy populous outside.
Generosity asks little,
“Give, and you shall receive,
Love, and you shall be loved.”
It plants seeds of kindness,
In the fertile soil of one’s quintessence.
Selfishness shouts,
“Take,
for none will give,
Hoard,
for none will share.”
It sows doubt and fear
For struggling minds
Wanting only to survive
Greed’s wasteland.
The clash is silent,
Yet reverberates through quiet undulations
Of one’s inner being,
Through choices made in moments,
When no one else can see within.
Generosity’s light flickers,
But never fades,
It finds strength in the giving,
In the joy of others’ smiles.
Covetous shadows loom,
But never conquer,
Finding but failure in the face of love,
In the warmth of a shared embrace.
In the end, the heart decides,
Which path to follow,
Which voice to heed,
In this eternal struggle,
Between giving and taking,
Between light’s generosity
and shadow’s venal ardor.
More recently, I have edited books for others and even published one when the author
had no money to get it published. It's just in my nature.
In the meantime, I have been very lucky, while losing jobs from time to time, find that serendipity finds me in a better place after. It's a good way to live.
