Needle Hole Escapes

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

It is thought that tear ducts are one of the most unappreciated gifts of Man’s ability to feel both joy an sorrow with but a few drops of consciousness.

Poem Artwork

 Needle Hole Escapes

How does it feel to look,

But never see past the dark?

Often forgotten…

But children marvel at color,

Movement,

Perception,

Not knowing control mongers await them,

Famished gluttons who relish

Those obviating consciousness.

The innocent some…

Risk pain,

While too few discover

Healing takes more than a poultice

Applied to a wound.

One’s mind and heart

Discover beyond mere hearing

And viewing.

Contrived storms find purchase everywhere,

Disallow the senses their calling to heal.

How simple it can be

For humans to honor one’s eyelids

To fend off tearful suffering from contrived storms,

Fueled by vengeful oxygen

Programed to destroy

Our eloquent sensorial gift,

The always present discovery of truth,

Or not.

Risk awaits

Perhaps muddied,

But nevertheless

Always at the ready.

Actuality’s hardened muscles

Know well how to discern banality from profundity.

How courageous

Those willing to risk,

Knowing to cower

Is to embrace that unsafe place of ignorance

Where wanton indulgence

Creates anesthetized existence,

The constricted shedding of colorless tears

Purged from one’s needle holes of escape.

Precious poem. The picture is perfect. I’m not a big fan of all poems having a photo attached. It seems like you have to do that these days .

Tears have always been known to alter the state of a person's mind by softy in the blows. And they are a shield against taking risk and failing. Finding enlightenment and wallowing in ignorance.

As one who has had clogged tear ducts, I know the discomfort and pain they can also provide if they are not working properly.

A deep and thought provoking pen, Odin. My life has been filled with many more tears of sorrow than tears of joy but I'm working on balancing them now. Well penned as always.

You might have entitled this ignorance v. enlightenment, two words that rest at opposite ends of life's continuum from darkness to possibilities.

Risk, a topic that one does not often observe in poetry and yet it is an aspect of life, and a source of decision-making, that we live with almost daily in our lives. We are continually faced with challenges on a daily basis, and therefore risk is not far behind: "Those willing to risk, knowing to cower is to embrace that unsafe place of ignorance," and as you insightfully write can lead to "anesthetized existence."
