Absolution

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

As the country prepares for a period of governance proclaimed by some to be a period of pay back and umbrage, we might all take a moment and deal with any resentments and ill feelings we might have with our own colleagues, acquaintances and loved ones.

Poem Artwork

 Absolution

To bear no malice is rewarding.

If in the hushed moments of reflection,
when the heaviness of heart holds fast the moments of past wrongs,
there lies a road sign unseen by many,
a path to freedom and peace,

grace.

Forgiveness knows such effort is not a sign of weakness,
but a strength,

a courage to let go,
to release the rusting chains that constrict the soul,
to allow solace in the act of letting be.

It is in the act of forgiving,
that we find our own liberation,
a lightness of the inner you,
a clarity in the mind.

The shadow of the past no longer looms,
allowing the future of one’s mind and heartscape

options of possibilities that can flourish..

To forgive is to heal,
to mend the erosive nature of judgmental behavior,

we reclaim our power,
we choose to abandon resentment,
inviting peace back into our being,
and in that choice

find our reward

in not trying to own love,

but to be love.

Well written. If only everyone could forgive and forget so many wars would never have gotten started.

The very idea that god is a god of anger and revenge goes against the idea that the meek shall inherit the Earth. The lack of forgiveness is hell bent on destroying the Earth.

We all want forgiveness, but some are reluctant to give it. It can be difficult to forgive people who have seriously wronged another, it depends on a lot of things, like time and circumstances and what's going on within the heart of the individual who needs to forgive. Your poem offers subtle insight into how forgiveness might be handled.

It's blessed to forgive, even if no one but you and God know you have forgiven. It's blessed to lay you head on the pillow at night, knowing there is no hate in your heart. Beautiful and wise poem, Odin.

This piece ( which you probably know) by Rumi I feel really helps the process you describe…

“Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing,
there is a field.
I’ll meet you there”
