Fallacious Currents

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Living fully pits our courage and compassion against surmountable odds, but for many of us, we wouldn’t be able to claim living… really living without the obstacles and problems and the imagination to solve them. After all, one of the ways to learn is to experience disappointment and often failure (Image by Odin AI)

 Fallacious Currents

A Matter of time

From birth
We ebb and tide
From embryo
To a purge upon
The rocks
Of reality

We're held high
Slapped
Smiled at
Life is alive

Then

Cuddled
Pampered
Protected
Educated
Extricated from the family
Exonerated of past mistakes
Cast to the winds

Then

And only then
The real weathering
Of currents begin

How challenging
This thrust into foreign waters
The inevitable coming of age
At many an age
The "Holy shit" of awakening
Under water
Gasping for air
Not knowing wisdom awaits
The catharsis of our superficial struggle

To be denied such
Is to not know infinite breath

Of the mind’s eye

Truer words were never spoken, we go through so much and often don't understand why until much later. Top shelf poem, Odin.

I like what Ron wrote in his last review sentence. Right in that those proboscis bird fish look plenty harrowing. Choosing ‘underwater’ as the struggle element is good…a drowning feeling from the swells of fate. Also, you bringing in ‘catharsis’ is wonderful because it can be seen to neutralize ‘fate’ itself, or what seems to be our ‘fate’. . for a while anyway, until it changes. ~~ djl

Wisdom does await the well lived life. The illustration matches the poem quite well. Especially all of the fishes in the sea… some food for thought and others, deadly predators. You never know which one the tides of the current will bring you to next.

There is nothing more surreal than a harried man in the rat race surfing on the waves of fate.

Ron
