Living's Threadbare Conundrum

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Preferring to not be anywhere else is a soothing state of mind. Nevertheless, ever-new experiences beg the continuum of reflection and examination, especially as our world continues nurturing short tenures of happiness. (Image by Odin AI)

 Living’s Threadbare Conundrum

          never without

we carry our
in progress journal

pages turning
flapping
fraying
while patience longs for
woven covers
story drenched
thread-bare vanishings
of Time's sweet vigil

          we fear

like rivers undone by the sea
our tendrils of living
coalesce
separate
clash
re-invent

          hidden

deceits rise like genies
through bottle-necked suppressions
duplicity's mist
layers hubris sans humility
while vacuous ether rising
gives nothing to something

          tenacious we

with acrobatic balance
our experience straddles the perfect woven
rainbow fabric stretched taut
shrouding Dread's weeping droplets

          but regret we will

our childhood
adolescence one
adolescence two
adolescence three
clumsily leaping to
octogenarian futures

          living

left frayed
with annoying decay
split fingernails
wispy strands atop the pate
stubble holding yesterday's pureed remnants

          next

to where the shreds of
threadbare tenacity settle
or do they ever
settle?

For

perhaps tattered fringes remain alive forever

our cherished philia and Neikos of Empedocles

reminding us that often ending's

are but frayed beginnings

If all of life is made up of squirming quarks underlying what appear to be rock solid atoms and compounds, then everything has a shelf life and is starting to deteriorate at the fringes as soon as it is conceived.

All the more reason to get as much done as we can during that short window of Youth we have.

I like returning to see what you have been writing, Odin. This one is commensurate with what I and others here are coming forth with — the crush of events so heavy, here, there, everywhere. Your AI reveals the sinew of this sort of human condition content in this post. I felt the squeeze and unravel just looking at the image. Then, your lines also keep that going, especially: “pages turning/flapping/fraying”…chaos in four words, each with its own line; effective. Also using adolescence three times, good choice. My favorite lines are: “deceits rise like genies/through bottle-necked supressions”. Things are so upsetting in society now, I can hardly concentrate to read or write. Coming back to AD I find substance. Carry the Flame ~~ djl

Last two lines are perfect, pulling the whole poem together.
