Becoming Love

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

To say “I am in love with you” should mean “I am in a state of love along side you.” Unfortunately, most see, experience and die thinking Love as something else, a state of mind needing an object to address with this idea of Love. (Image by Odin AI)

 Becoming Love

Love is without attachment.

No mirror, no witness,
only the hush of fog curling around a nameless dawn.

Love drifts…

As a phantom without address,
a whisper that never asks to be heard,

needing never to knock,

finding the wearing of jewels and robes unnecessary.

Love simply breathes

allowing us to enfold as one.

Most wander with cups chipped and hollow,
measuring absence like a ritual.

Half-empty, they say,
as if emptiness were a badge of truth.
But Love knows the vessel as brimming,
knows the ocean hiding in a single drop
knows fullness without proof,
without applause,
without the weight of eyes.

Invisible…

It hovers as a cloud without rain,
a ghost without grief,
a vapor threading through the density of silence.
Those who seek shape will miss it.
Those who demand color will call it void.
Yet it moves,
and in its movement,
the world tilts toward nirvana.

Becoming love…

Equates with wearing no name,

no pulse to declare its living,

Love wears no name,
needs no pulse to declare its living,

being the breath before breath,

a dream that dreams without dreamer.

Love remains the architecture of the unseen,
the scaffolding of every silence,
the echo that builds worlds from vapor.

needing to name or death,

only the endless corridor

where shadows forget themselves.

To become Love
is to vanish into the infinite,
to surrender the weight of identity,
to bloom as mist in the orchard of the eternal.
And in vanishing,
to fill everything,
every glass cup,
every hollow sky,
every whisper that thought it was alone.

Very astute and thought-proving thought process going on here. Love not as a state of extension but as a state of mind first and foremost to be showered upon others as a kind of grace. As the poet concludes: "to fill everything, every glass cup, every hollow sky, ever whisper that thought it was alone." Simply, quietly beautiful.

BTW, to counter Ron's argument, hardly overreach when undefinable thoughts are made understandable. Bravo!

Much ado about love. Perhaps an overreach. I think of love as much simpler than your extensive description of nearly undefinable thought.

To me, love is an emotion. An emotion we can't control but we should try to emulate among everything that we do.

It is good fortune at day’s end, I would think, for many others besides myself to see you posted a piece titled ‘Becoming Love,’ and going here and finding this, Odin. Among the many writings you have shared here in the Den, this one is a beauty. There are layers of wisdom in these lines, a dimension that is expansive enough to remove the human condition of ‘me’ ‘you’ ‘us,’ the individualism. Taken by these two lines: “Love simply breathes/allowing us to unfold as one.” I receive the connectivity that then delivers the oneness: “ knows fullness without proof,/without applause,/without the weight of eyes.” “is to vanish into the infinite.” I feel lifted from reading this. Thank you ~~ djl

Becoming love is a dizzying philosophical exploration that goes way beyond personal relationships. Quite frankly, IMO, the topic is a nuanced concept that is challenging to navigate. Someone who has found the deep waters of love with another, and of which the roots of the relationship are strong and healthy, and able to weather any storm, juxtaposed with someone who is unloved by another, spurned in many relationships over their lifetime, and in persistent philosophical unrest to quantify that state, find themselves standing on the edges of a deep gulf that is extremely difficult to bridge.

Clearly, love is more than just an emotion, or a ‘state of being’. It becomes a mirror to the soul, and the spark behind some of living’s greatest questions. Being ‘in love’ with another could be construed as an impulsive attraction or connection that may trigger a state of possessiveness and the need for continual reassurance. Truly loving another, however, provides security and circumvents the constant need for attention and affirmation. Love is not just something you feel, it is something you do. And if you cannot love another more than yourself, finding true love, or becoming love, will end up being something that will never savor true clarity. Enjoyed the images Mr. Bateman. Hope you’re well. rlc
