Corner Table Romance

In a dark smoke filled room;
There was loud music; flashing neon signs;
Strangers meeting strangers; and friends I knew;
A good lookin' bartender; With a smile for all;
On the other side of all this madness;
That's where I found you

A corner table romance; 'Tween ol Jack and I;
Straight and over ice; He kept me high-
If the band played a waltz; That's what I'd do;
or the cotton eyed joe; well I could do that too

It was a bar room atmoshpere; I knew it well;
Spent all my nights, under it's good-time spell-
Runnin' from life; and all it's treacherous turns-
Lookin' for a one night stand; yeah I'd been burned

I wore the scars of heartache, for all to see;
hangin' round my neck; like a horse thief  from a tree-
That corner table romance 'tween me an ol Jack-
he kept the pain away; so I kept comin' back

I was on the dance floor when you caught my eye;
New face 'neath that stetson; I damn well wasn't shy-
I strolled right up and planted myself on the stool-
"hey cowboy; Wanna shoot some pool?"

You never looked up; Rack'em, you said;
while pushing that hat back on your head-
"What we playin' for?" then you grinned;
"I'll let you know, first you gotta' win"

From the pool table to the dance floor;
we slipped out the back door-
You walked; I followed; found your old Ford truck;
tailgate down; we talked of life and how it sucked

Then came the question; "Can I take you home?"
He smiled and said, "not tonight" I'm not here alone-
I wasn't lookin' for romance; Justa' place to drown my sorrows;
but like your friend Jack; I'll be here tomorrow

That corner table romance; 'tween me and ol jack;
kinda faded with the time; and I never looked back-
The cowboy neath that stetson? We've raised five kids since then;
That was twenty years ago; But we'd do it all again
