Sometimes

Sometimes I sit and wonder
About all the things in my life.
I question my dreams, my friends, my heart,
And everything that ever caused me strife.
And when I question my heart,
The first thing that appears is you.
All my thoughts get mixed up,
As I think of all the pain you’ve put me through.

Sometimes I sit and question
About the person that you’ve become.
You used to be so sweet and caring,
And now you make me feel so dumb.
You’ll act like you don’t know me,
Or you’ll pretend like I’m not there.
My heart breaks into a million pieces
And I question why I still even care.

Sometimes I sit and remember
The person you once were.
The guy who was so sweet and funny,
The one who caused my feelings to stir.
He might have just been a boy,
But he still meant the world to me.
And that boy had slowly been disappearing,
And I was just hoping that he was what you would be.

Sometimes I sit and realize
That the boy I love is still inside you.
He comes out every now and then,
Although the times he appears are so few.
He’ll smile at me and make me feel special,
Make me feel like he actually cares.
He’ll make me laugh, and not treat me badly,
And it seems like the stuck up jerk was never there.

Sometimes I sit and picture
How he only comes out when you let your guard down.
He gets released when you open up,
And takes a deep breath until you push him back where he can’t be found.
And when he’s gone, it’s easy to tell.
You go back to acting cruel.
You treat old friends badly and seem like you don’t care,
And I wonder if I’m just a fool.

Sometimes I sit and ponder
About why you don’t listen to yourself.
You said life is about who you love and who you hurt,
But it doesn’t seem to be the way you’ve ever felt.
You sound like some sort of hypocrite
When I read the words you once said.
You talk about acceptance and not judging others,
When it seems to be the only thing you did.

Sometimes I sit and wish
That I didn’t love you like I do.
I wish I didn’t care, didn’t pay attention,
To my heart and to you.
You’ve broken it so many times,
And yet it still seems to yearn for you.
No matter how much I tell it to give up,
It won’t let go of the boy that it once knew.

Sometimes I sit and do so much thinking
That it’s hard to figure anything out.
You puzzle me so much,
And have hurt me deeply, without a doubt.
I only want to ask you why you act the way you do,
Why you seem so unsure of who you are,
Why you change your personality so quickly,
Why you have to always break my heart.

Sometimes, of course, isn’t all the time.
It’s only part of it,
But the majority of my time is filled with you,
No matter how much I try to fight it.
I’ll always wonder and question and wish
About the person you are and could be.
I just want you to know that I love you,
And that you’re the only one for me.

One can have so many emotions. Few can describe them so elegantly.
