A Dream Too Long

The song had just begun the music softly filled the air
Everything was calm and then I saw you standing there
And you were like a dream come true
The one I had been waiting for.

Some things were meant to be and this was ours alone
The pieces fit so well the puzzle neatly sewn 
But puzzles sometimes start to blur
Before the dream is gone.

How we danced as if the world was ours
We took a chance on love and headed toward the stars
We set our course so high we never looked away
Could we have missed that distant star when dreams got in our way?

So magical the trip so perfectly set in time
Our senses overflowed like poetry divine
But nothing ever stays the same
When dreamers dream too long
Or when the music fades away
And takes away the song.
