One of my early attempts at writing a love poem.

Poem Artwork

Tomorrow

The swirling images and tangled thoughts
Of things that were and maybe not
Recede into wisps of cloudy haze and tiny dots
As dawn awakens me.

A thousand times I’ve viewed this scene
And blinked my eyes from sleep serene
Asleep awake perhaps between
And she was always there.

She lay there heaving and softly breathing
Her lips were parted sweetly
Disheveled hair was everywhere
My heart was madly beating.

Primal urges came in surges
At least they did that day
She grabbed and clutched and pulled me close
There’s little more to say.

My arms surrounded her body parts
As moans crept near my lips
She shifted slightly toward me
And kissed my fingertips.

Some say love is like a river
That flows out to the sea
I say love is like a mountain
That challenges my will to be.

I climbed that mountain
To stake my claim
Before reality could rule the day
She whispered in the morning mist
“Tomorrow will be our day.”

Everybody who has ever been in love (or lust) can identify with this poem. We need visions to keep us going, and this is one kind. Writing it down helps someone else feel and understand it.

You did well, Ed. Romantically beautiful.

For an early attempt this was really good. It showed the journey and conclusion. It was a romantic piece for sure.

Temptingly just out of reach…
But a good reason to retire to bed early…
Perhaps next time…

Yeah, those wake-up "dots" are a bitch at times. You get my age and the mind tries to mix up the dots, make a matrix of mixed images, hoping for a new image, one that will last during the waking hours. But, nocturnal magic is back in the hat by the time one shakes their head and reality reminds them... give it a rest. You had a good run. Go to bed early if you have to and dream some more. Know the routine.

why do we so often forget names, but experiences stay with us without giving us a rest.

very imaginative and really makes the emotions come real.

Certainly romantic. I couldn't help by looking at the picture and wonder if she was testing the water temperature. From the ice floating, I would say that it was way too cold to enjoy and probably would freeze her little tootsie if she dunked it in. ;-)

Not bad for an early attempt. You did improve with age, though!
