What doth thou see when thine eyes gaze,
Upon my person and my face?
What brings thine smile upon thine lips,
And tender touch of fingertips,
That brush my face like Angels wings,
And thus doth force my heart to sing?
Doth thou envision in thine mind,
A valiant knight? If so thoust blind,
I have no castle, wealth nor land,
Yet whenst thine hand is in my hand,
Or thine sweet lips doth brush my own,
I’m as a king with golden throne,
With all creation at my feet,
This much my love thou brings to me,
Yet in return what do I give?
A blacksmiths shack in which to live,
A life of hardship, toil and strife,
Tis no fair trade my darling wife,
Yet though thou slave from dusk till dawn,
And raise the offspring we have spawned,
The love thou pledged is not displaced,
Nor hast thine smile once left thine face,
Tis hard for me to understand,
Albeit that I’m just a man,
And not privy to thou inner mind,
But if fate could grant just one request,
It would reward thou love within thine breast,
With all the earthly wealth that it could find,
I wouldst be thine knight, and dragons slay,
Joust for thine favour any day,
And charge the tilt till not a knight remains,
Yet a blacksmith’s all I am in truth,
And forge hot iron into horses hooves,
Still never once hast I heard thee complain,
What kindly deed in my past life,
Became deserving of such a noble wife,
Is impossible for me to comprehend,
What for my God did I do best?
That in reward my life was blessed,
With thee, my Angel, he did choose to send.
