The old Yew tree

We sat beside an old Yew tree
A mystery girl, my dog and me
Not a word was said, nor a glance shared
We both just sat still and stared

Into a distance beyond the Yew
But there was a feeling we both knew
My heart was pounding, I don’t know why
I hadn’t yet caught her eye

A dizziness came and clouded my mind
I was tempted to turn, to look behind
Casually dropping my hand by my side
Gently inviting her hand to slide

Into mine so we both could share
The love I felt was in the air
Impetuously I turned to look
She lifted her head from her book

Her ice blue eyes stared deep into mine
I was certain this was a sign
Chemistry, an unspoken word
Unspoken, though I heard

Her heart was speaking loud and clear
I wanted her close, I wanted her near
We kissed, we kissed with fervour
I thought nothing would unnerve her

That day beneath the old Yew tree
The mystery girl, my dog and me
The day I turned into a man
It was the day my life began

I like it! Not enough people work in rhyme and meter these days. Keep up the good work.
