Jealous winds still search the earth
For scent angels could not hold.
Lost somewhere ‘cross Heaven’s girth,
Unrestrained and uncontrolled.
But captured by alluring light
Burning softly in blue eyes.
That scent the cherubs did requite,
Kept now for me by gentle ties.
She smells of jonquils, new in Spring,
Of calm, of storm, of peace, and rest.
The balm that only love can bring,
And jealous winds cannot contest.
Jealous winds move dreams aside
To search for that which angels lost,
But cannot break what love has tied,
Although my life be tempest-tossed.
