You Sleep Now

by T. A. Cline — Read all 19 poems by T. A. Cline

A parental goodnight to his child.

Wednesday, February 12, 2020

You Sleep Now

Lie down, rest your head now my little one,

And dream of angel’s wings and halos of gold.

Dream of faraway lands where beauty is bold,

Sleep my little one, sleep for your day is done.

Rest now my little one for the day is gone,

You have climbed mountains to the very peak.

Rubies and gold of pirates treasure you’d seek,

And great battles in faraway lands you’ve won.

You have saved the princess from the evil king,

And shot arrows with Robin Hood and his men.

You have watched babies hatch by mother wren,

You played with tadpoles swimming in the spring.

You have followed the buzzing of the bee,

And you have wondered where he hid his honey.

You have put pretty rocks in your pocket for money,

Oh my little one, this blessed day you have been free.

I pray you rest and have no fear of nightly fright,

Your angel comes and holds your hand in peace.

Sleep now rest your heart as your labors cease,

May God protect and keep you through the night.

A very lovely and touching poem for the young one who may have had a very busy day out in the wide world around.
