The Little Cow That Could

by T. A. Cline — Read all 19 poems by T. A. Cline

A humorous look at life and we the people.

Thursday, February 20, 2020

There was a little cow laying happily on the side of a hill,

Dandelions and lilies and green grass around her still.

She was at ease and lying there so comfortable and fair,

Suddenly lifting her leg she shot a great fart into the air.

The old farmer he chuckled, he knew how she felt,

The pain was gone she was free except what he smelt.

The old farmer’s wife shook her head knowing the sound,

For her husband had made their home echo all around.

The good neighbor laughed at the cow’s meager wail,

My cow is stronger she farts seven on the Richter scale.

The Banker dressed all fancy stood looking on in disbelief,

If only you could charge interest she could have more relief.

The Politician grasped the moment and started a lengthy speech,

The cow is notorious and she is covering up we must impeach.

The Preacher looked on very lowly and sad in his heart,

I only wish when out in public I could cut such a great fart.

The environmentalist looking all white and forlorn,

Bowed his head knowing for this moment he was born.

It’s the cow that has done it he lifted up his mournful cry,

Its global warming and carbon, we are all going to die.

The cow stood up and walked slowly away,

She would come again on a quieter day.

As she slowly slid into her comfortable stall,

Looking back at the people thinking idiots all.

You have taken the fact that cows, by eating grass, and then digesting it through multiple stomachs, give off a lot of methane in the process, creating an insightful poem. I'm for replacing all of the cows in the western United States with buffalo. Better tasting meat and lower emissions.

We will all be eating seaweed in the future and think that it is the best beef we've ever eaten. For we will all be gone except for a few cows that escaped slaughter.

If we discover how to harness intestinal gas, we could solve the world's energy problems.
