Twilight Things

I can see the shapes of trees in the twilight sky,

Like unmade things that are doomed to fly.

They move with slowness yet they change,

Like dreams at night so certain, so strange.

They call me, they beckon me, they draw me so,

I turn my back, but yet I know I surely must go.

I stagger beneath the weight of uncertain fear,

As I move closer and closer, I now come near.

As twilight seeps into the cottony mist,

I trouble, I trouble, I just cannot resist.

Fear’s arms embrace me and in gulf my fleeing,

I become over shadowed by a dark strange being.

The darkness settles the mist rises high,

Above the giants that once reached the sky.

They have retreated to darkness from where they came,

No longer wild and birthing fears awesome game.

My breath returns with softness still,

To settle my heart and recapture my will.

Another day with coming night it brings,

A fearful assault of Twilight Things.

You certainly have set the stage for an eerie evening before going to bed and dreaming. As the sun goes down and the transition in our eyes changes from color to black-and-white as well as fog appearing sometimes with the change in temperature, even a friendly forest can become quite ghostly at night.

I used to fear the night when I was a kid. Back then I could relate this poetic gem. But now night is when I pry to get a good nights sleep. Not scared of the dark anymore or anything that crawls or creeps. Boo! LOL
