I long to rise one brilliant day
And see a healthy world
A place where pain is washed away
And kindness is unfurled
Where hands are raised toward skies of blue
Then, reached toward broken hearts
So they can grow from grief they knew
And make a brand new start.
I long to find a winter’s eve
Where everyone has heat
A gift I see not as naive
For those lost on the street
A day when we stand with one voice
And show how much we care
About the souls whose only choice
Left them in great despair.
I long to rise one brilliant day
And see no foster homes
Because each child has found his way
To places he can roam
Where he shall have tall trees to climb
And a new baseball glove
Thanks to parents who take the time
To fill his heart with love.
I know I am asking for much
Within my longing heart
But, sometimes, just one single touch
Can play a lasting part
Within the souls of those who need
To see a smiling face
During the times when they must heed
Life’s oft rigid embrace.
