Her Courage

by Jill Eisnaugle — Read all 611 poems by Jill Eisnaugle

A poem inspired by the courage of those dealing with PTSD every day.

Poem Artwork

No one knows how she is feeling
She hides the pain that well
But, even when she's smiling
Her spirit lives in Hell
Turmoil she tried to bury
Unbearable to face
Has risen to the surface
And is now commonplace

Her life once held together
Now crumbles at its core
Each day with fears uncertain
Now feels like such a chore
Her peaceful rest has faltered
The nightmares run too deep
Her waking hours broken
Thanks to a lack of sleep

Some days, her mind is quiet
'til painful memories' bellow
The chaos born from hardship
So difficult to mellow
One minute, she seems past it
Free from its lethal wrath
The perils formed from trauma
Leave a changed aftermath

Nevermore will she be blinded
To the hardships she has fought
Deep within, she has the courage
To hear with all she's got
Some days the memories linger
But, her hope is much too great
To allow PTSD's chokehold
As her forever fate

Therefore, she will keep fighting
Embracing what is real
She'll cry whenever warranted
And feel what she must feel
While others may not see this
Because she hides it well
She'll face each day much wiser
Than she will ever tell

Jill,
This is such a moving account of one brave soul who fights for life through her pain, one determined to live despite life's challenges.
Loved it!

The poet here sees so much. Seeing something in her beautiful and lovely as she battles her old inner scripts. That to all the world her denial makes everything seem fine, however, she knows her true paradigm, her true nature and by never giving up, backing down and keeping her belief, little by little she begins to change her lifestyle, living her new dream, new life and never forgets who she is, having others seek her out for her wisdom.

You have really captured what this is all about!
There are so many people in this world that feels exactly this way!
Amazing job, Jill!
Peace, love and light,

It's so good to see you posting again. And the subject… well, from what you've been through, it may be a bit autobiographical.

Jill,

Beautifully written about a painful subject. I too, live with pain nearly every day. I've learned to live with it the best I can.

Love and blessings,
