SHE JUST WRIGHT
Back in the day, watchin’ Ben Hur I got saved,
Cause when Jesus healed Ben’s sisters yo the love that he gave,
It moved me to tears and just like a freed slave,
I felt the love of the Divine calmin’ my rage,
And movin’ me to tears,
Beyond my fears,
And all the years,
I spent in darkness,
Tryin’ to harness,
My own ego and my game,
Each night doin’ the same, lame,
Quest for dames and fame.
All the while lookin’ for that perfect profile type,
You know the kind, SHE JUST WRIGHT!!!
Yo back in the day, I met these eyes and got saved,
They were asian and black, like a queen of a past age,
And yo, just in case you don’t know,
Her face had a glow, and let’s not mention her body,
She ran track, lifted weights, and danced all night at the party,
And yo a sista’s thighs,
Made both my eyebrows rise,
And yo even my crew,
Kept askin’ mad salty, “Yo why she like you?”
And yo deeper than the surface I mean straight objective,
Let me give you a minute of her spiritual perspective,
We’d talk about life and right all night,
And even when we’d fight,
It ended with us prayin’ to the Mother of the light,
And God whispered in my ear, “Yo boy, SHE JUST WRIGHT!!”
But yo, don’t you know, that a brotha had some curses,
My great grandfather was a preacher and after readin’ church verses,
And seein’ females fallin’ out and losin’ their purses,
He’d sneak out after service and wait behind the hearses,
For the richest deacon’s wife so they could sneak off,
Without countin’ the cost,
To the love and self respect for themselves that they’d lost,
And yo just like great grand pa,
A brotha’s eyes weren’t right,
Cause the pain of black madness kept blindin’ his sight,
To the beauty before him burnin’ bright with God’s might,
Yo, his mind knew the deal,
But the gangsta within,
Couldn’t shake all that game playin’,
And chasin’ after skin,
You know the way we do,
Come on baby, I love you,
It’s true I really do,
That other girl’s just a moment that I’m takin’ to rest,
From bein’ true to God and tryin’ my best,
And yo the Almighty, he screamed in my face,
” You screwin this up, and your butt she won’t chase,
If you can’t see what you got,
Then I got millions to take your place
So you best stop actin’ up and engage your flesh in fight,
Cause yo, just like I told you, SHE JUST WRIGHT!!!”
Yo back in the day, a playa got saved,
By asian eyes that could have judged him but instead they forgave,
And then he got his stuff together, started actin’ like a man,
He gave up the life,
He gave up the strife,
Of chasin’ dames and runnin’ games,
And bought a ring to make his move,
To get to hear those perfect lips say I do,
And when he had his first daughter, a brotha made an oath,
Not one curse of his cipher would ever stunt his child’s growth,
So yo get behind me Satan, cause forever I’ll fight,
To do good by my Kentucky, SHE JUST WRIGHT,
Yo we two were dynamic and had honors from Northwestern,
We could have made the mad grip with like McKenzie and Booz Allen,
But we both was chasin’ justice and the mercy of the lamb,
Ain’t nothin’ wrong with bein’ rich cause God wants us to prosper,
But if there’s a choice, I choose the tears that come when I ponder,
On the beauty of a soul that’s broken but finds honor,
Because I did my part with God to make him feel stronger,
And yo my partner was there wit me fightin’ strongholds of injustice,
And let me bust this,
Watchin her comfort souls was like watchin’ the sun’s light,
Like I told you before, SHE JUST WRIGHT.
And for a while stuff was cool, but boy you know that life just happens,
Her brother drowned, her father died, and a brotha found real pain,
Except instead of breakin’ his foot, he broke his brain,
And then everything changed,
And his manhood felt slain,
And he went from fixin’ furniture, to bein’ too insane,
To find his way home from the grocery or get to the bathroom in time,
And when he finally crossed that line, to lose all of his mind,
I can’t lie, she thought of runnin’,
But heard the savior’s light,
“Don’t leave, cause you can do this, YOU JUST WRIGHT!”
And time passed and I felt like quittin’,
But then I saw my daughter with a ball that she was hittin’,
With a racket twice her size, I must admit I was smittin,
And I remembered my oath, and I looked into the smirk,
Of the curses that had claimed me, in a hell where demons lurk,
And I looked to the Almighty, and said, “You can’t let me die!”
Cause now I know what hell feels like, and the torment of its lie,
And if I can just hold out for some peace in my space,
Then I can help others out of hell to a better place,”
And my wife who had been lookin from a shadow in the corner,
Came over to me cryin’ but with a strength like Sojourner,
And said, “Yo God’s got us, and you know we’ll win this fight,”
Yo, you see what I’ve been sayin’? SHE JUST WRIGHT,
But yo, lately, in the pressure of a madness that won’t die,
My thoughts defy my spirit and I keep lustin’ with my eyes,
Temptations at me comin’ like back in the day,
When all I ever planned was the game that I would say,
And last night I thought of curses that come from our pain,
I thought of the hell of breakin’ my brain,
And so, I swallowed my pride and embraced that humiliation,
Of screamin’ from rooftops that my eyes were racin’,
To hearses and curses and a lack of self respect,
Yeah my actions have been cool, but my mind had been suspect,
And some say that all that’s natural it’s just a part of bein’ here,
But yo have you seen the anguish in the eyes?
Of women whose husbands try,
To do the dirty over and over and then cover it with lies?
And yo, even though its only thoughts that berate me all day,
Where the mind goes the body follows is what the wise folks say,
And yo, if I betray her, I can’t stand to bear the sight,
Of the pain in her spirit, SHE JUST WRIGHT.
And yo, I’m here to tell ya, this world it ain’t kind,
If you think that I’m lyin’ then just lose your mind,
And so homey you can trust me, that when you reach out in truth,
This culture will judge you and send you to Dr. Ruth,
Cause the shame of our minds is that we scoff at redemption,
And we doubt our savior’s ascension,
He proved that love is invincible,
And taught us this principle,
That if we honest and true , and let others see,
The pain of imperfection and the bastards we can be,
Then no matter what the outcome, we guaranteed the victory,
Cause there’s a savior who loves us, unconditionally,
And for me, let me tell you, I’ll never go down,
I don’t care how much shame I swallow as I strive for the sound,
For those words of “Well Done”, from the Lion who found,
A narcissistic playa and showed him the light,
And what’s more, he gave him an angel, SHE JUST WRIGHT!!!
