Donning of the Green

by Edie M. Batstone — Read all 134 poems by Edie M. Batstone

Out of all the colors on the color wheel, green is regarded as the most restful and relaxing - Green symbolizes harmony, tranquility, peace; it enhances stability and endurance, promotes optimism, hopefulness, and balance.
Some thoughts on this St. Paddy's Day

Thursday, March 17, 2022

Donning of the Green

On this St. Paddy's Day
When I'm donning the green,
I'll think of the colours
That come in between;
On this rainbow of life,
In the midst of our songs,
In the midst of our glee,
Forgetting past wrongs;
On this St. Paddy's Day,
The Irish in me,
Will think of the colours
That make up the green,
The peace and the joy
Of the yellow and blue,
Waiting with courage,
For hope to break through;
May it dawn on us all
That those colours serene,
Cannot be left out,
They are part of our green.

Very fitting for Saint Patrick and the Emerald Isle. Forever green because of the prevailing rain and wind and the ample warmth of the Gulfstream waters flowing all the way from the Gulf of Mexico. Strange that the British conquerors would prohibit the wearin' of the green.

I have a little bit of Irish in me. And a lot of engineer. So I go along with the tradition quite nicely even though I'm not a Catholic and never will be.
