My first hard-knock against my own mortality...

Monday, June 19, 2017

Poem Artwork

My First Heart Attack By Bob Mitchley My first heart attack was… My first hard-knock against my own mortality As I lay helpless in the ER, coherent to what might be… My first real thirst for sustainable normality Was days away, after being poked and prodded for my last ounce of blood. I’d give anything to have back my old vitality With the chance to start a new… But, at a scheduled point in our lives we all have to face our own finality, Hopefully not alone…

GEE, IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU EXPECT ANOTHER ONE, BOB. I PRAY THAT YOU DON'T HAVE ANOTHER ONE AND I HOPE THAT YOU NEVER FORGET; NO MATTER WHERE WE ARE OR WHAT OUR CIRCUMSTANCES BE...WE ARE 'NEVER' ALONE. 'HE' MADE US THIS PROMISE AND 'HE'...NEVER...BREAKS HIS PROMISES! THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

Like my doctor said when I told him that my left arm hurt me (after sleeping with it in a bad position, probably cutting off circulation) that I had a "Wake up call," and "Had better get my heart checked." In spite of the misread symptom, my heart and arterial system checked out fine on a three dimensional CT analysis. Although I have been misdiagnosed as having heart problems all my life--murmurs, heart nerve problems, etc.--nothing has ever panned out.

Still, I think that those who eat hearty like my father and die suddenly of a heart attack (he didn't--died from a bad hospital bug and four months of misery after making a quick recovery from heart valve surgery within elective bypass) get to miss out on the painful slow degradation and eventual nursing home comatose living that I dread, especially with my increasing paralysis and loss of hearing, making verbal communication with my caregivers nearly impossible. Faced with that prospect, a sudden death by heart attack is welcome. After a close call with death from pneumonia in 2012, my affairs are in order. I have no need to look forward to something weird like heaven and leave no regrets about people I've harmed in leaving them behind.

We are all vulnerable and will die sooner or later from something.
My first wife died from cancer surrounded by family. She said that she wanted to "go home" to be with her maker. I was told I was near death when a brown recluse bit me near my heart. I was not concerned for I know where I am going thanks be to our Lord. Still, I don't like to see anyone suffer in pain. My the Lord grant us all a fruitful life and when the time comes, a peaceful death. Amen
