Finding Peace

by Myra Wexler Darwish — Read all 62 poems by Myra Wexler Darwish

"Finding Peace" was written with the hope that peace itself can be found in our everyday lives while in the beauty of nature. We are gifted as humans to be able to experience many of life's pleasures; nature by far yields some of the greatest bounty.

FINDING PEACE

By, Myra Wexler Darwish

I looked in the grandest places,

The sky, the sea, the woods,

And began to find its traces,

Where I had sat and stood.

The skies had magic in their form,

From sunrise till the dusk.

Color was the bounteous norm,

Changing clouds from pink to rust.

The sea and its endless patterns,

From stillness to great waves,

Spoke of quietude and yearning,

Treasured memories I will save.

The woods whispered their secrets,

With the rustling of the leaves.

I listened not to rush or fret,

Enraptured by the breeze.

Each moment of my ardent quest,

Felt like time would never cease.

Enshrining within my joyful chest,

The residue of peace.

While the natural world is filled with drama from insects to large animals struggling to survive to reproduce and live through horrendous seasons of plenty and drought, still, on the face of it, all is quiet and peaceful. That is the irony of the natural world. Most of the time there is great peace and tranquility. Occasionally however, that peace will erupt with immense violence.

A very exquisitely written poem about the majestic things to see if we but look at nature's gems with an eye for grandeur.
