Love's Regret

by Myra Wexler Darwish — Read all 62 poems by Myra Wexler Darwish

Love's Regret is written from a masculine and melancholic perspective. Life can become a "What if," and "Regretful" existence; finding love again can spark hope, which can be a balm for a saddened heart.

LOVE’S REGRET
By, Myra Wexler Darwish

I have looked for her since,
In places near and far
Having found her once in my younger years…
Foolishly choosing to let her go
Amid my youth and foolish fears.

Like a solitary sentinel,
I’ve lived a quiet life
Trusting that was how to be…
While grieving alone,
So that others might not see.

With the courage of a soldier
In a distant foreign land,
I’ve lived each day in sad regret…
Denying the wisdom of my inner-voice,
Unheard on the first day that we met.

Oh, if fate guides her to me - one sweet time again,
I’d whisper to her gently, so her soul would surely hear
This time we will never part…
For you will be loved every night and day,
By my grateful and jubilant heart.

It's always courageous to write from the viewpoint of the opposite sex. In this case, you reminded me of my brother who lost his first love to divorce and then struggled to find his second after six years of regret. And then, recently after 25 years, his love, in good health, died tragically from a fall. He has wasted no time, this time with regret and is back dating again.
