For the sake of some barrels of oil, we’re steadily ruining our world,

Oil execs stand helplessly by, whilst epithets at them are hurled.

We’re told by them, “All is under control”. We don’t have to worry,

But the Gulf is now at risk. Its rescue best do better than hurry.

Now that oil is gushing forth, experts have proposed the next, best thing,

“We’ll set the slick on fire”. How slick!...but slick has a hollow ring.

The burn will generate smoke, which will dump its deadly grime

Over environs pristine. Folks, we’ve been “had” another time.

Remember the Exxon Valdez, when all those birds of a feather

Died their unseemly death, smeared in oil, and no one cared whether

We’d learned our lesson. We hadn’t, you know. We lost many species

In a reversal of normal events. It was said the cooling device hit the feces.

Folks, the solution is worse than the problem. It makes a body wonder

What are these “experts” thinking, when they try to extract oil from under

The sea with machines. Man has yet to design a system that won’t fail

This time some men have died in trying. The logic?...beyond the pale.

Daily, the oil slick grows larger. The problem expands many fold.

But, don’t worry, all is under control. At least, that is what we’re told.

The slick approaches Texas, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, too

With oil for Florida’s panhandle, with results we will only rue.

You know, Mother Nature recently did this to herself with a volcano

That spewed its ash and lava on Europe, for days it fell like rain, oh.....

Well, Mother Nature has quieted down and again practices sense, but

Man doesn’t have the smarts to learn. He’d rather earn those few cents.
