Highways Of My Soul (A Sonnet)

by Charles Keller — Read all 159 poems by Charles Keller

We look into the mirror and see lines on our faces but are they really highways?

Sunday, October 28, 2007

Those crow-feet lines of laughter near my eyes
all leading back to corners of my mind,
considering their depth and length and size
can demonstrate life’s laughter, there defined.

Those creases ‘round my mouth express concern.
My furrowed brow has stood the test of time.
Looking at my face your eyes may soon learn
my inner light is strong enough to shine.

Tracks of laughter run beside tracks of tears.
Rocky roads or smooth highways find their way.
Connecting communities o’er the years.
Transporting thoughts as each night turns to day.

This lined face is the atlas of my soul.
Each line shows where I’ve been, paying each toll.

You carry the impression of your words and visa versa. I can't think of a higher compliment for a poet and life-warrior.

Blessings on you Chuck,

Keith

It is a privilege to read a poetic composition that makes
THE AMERICAN FINE LETTERS SHINE!
"Highways Of My Soul (A Sonnet)" has paid its dues to the treasure of Poetry.
