When family goes wrong and the parent dies in silent remorse. To a fallen soldier of PTSD and his daughter, Jeanne. No AA here, so sad.

Sad Reflections

djbeaulieu, 04-13-07

We visited a grave today – you and me.

And, I saw a lot of agony in your loving heart.

I watch you stare at the headstone with a name.

I saw you sigh and shed a tear today.

One of sadness I believe -- as you silently grieved.

The sorrow in you heart was heavy at that moment,

for time is creeping upon us as it does.

No more freshness of our youthfulness.

I saw you sigh and shed a tear today.

For now it is your friends that are passing, not just your dad.

We must all come to the end of this earthly time,

but none of us has to die and lie beneath the cold ground

if we are love by those on earth and above.

I saw you sigh and cry a tear today.

We visited a grave today, you and me,

of “Sam the potato cart

man.”

His heart was heavy with war wounds and a sorrowful past.

He was Sam who for a brief moment in time was a hero.

As his daughter looked down on him

beneath the cold, ground of this April 13th day

Sam smiled a little, for may be she was forgiving him-- a little.

For Sam it was a lucky Friday the thirteenth.

I saw you sigh and cry a tear today.

Clearly for you, my love, there was no smile.

May be you should pray for this man

they called “Sam the potato cart man.”

May be you should find one or two happy memories

of those times that have gone by.

For after all, you are the daughter of a lost hero,

an everyday man, who served his country proudly.

Sadly, one who lost himself to the “ghost of war.”

The after-math of which became the addiction of the dark bottle

that delivered his wounded spirit into the world of hell’s isolation.

I saw you sigh and cry a tear today.

He was your daddy, and he helped to give you life

so that you might help others pass through this world

with kindness, understand, dignity; for some of us, true love.

I cried two tears today – one for you and one for Sam.

These are sad reflection of a time gone by and yet to be.

I was the silent observer of this moment and

for Sam R. Gibble – a perfectly imperfect man.

I saw you sigh and cry a tear today

a perfectly imperfect man.
I saw you sigh and cry a tear today

None of us asked to be here nor have the struggles in our life. Each of us in our imperfections deserves to be remembered. It is better to share those memories while people are still alive, but it is those same memories that will provide comfort when they're gone.

Your poem is JUST what I needed.
God bless you,
Kathy
