It is about love and that first dance that sends your heart fluttering in joy.

May I Have This Dance, Please?

djbeaulieu

I extended my hand to you, sweet one,

and ask,  “May I have this dance?”

I felt strong and brave – all or none.

Your “yes,” contained such romance, such fun,

that my heart reached out to you

as we glided along chest to chest,

arm with in arm; hand in hand.

Do you remember how beautiful the quest?

The rhythm carried us around

the giant dance floor to the marked

beat of the rapid-fire drum that did pound.

The gleam in our eyes reflected a special spark.

A spark, that lit up our faces in ecstasy.

Oh, how sweet were our sunshine smiles.

So powerful, that they could be seen for miles.

Do you remember the enticement of the caress?

Oh, how beautiful it was to dance with you

cheek to cheek, that very first dance.

We took a risk of equal measure you and I

as we risked a few moments of happenstance.

Yes, we did, dance the dance from side to side;

is it any wonder why we became so misty-eyed.

The fear in the first dance of discovery was so dignified.

Do you remember that kiss of faithful finesse?

What a beautiful night it was, but it got lost

in the light of the following day.

Do you remember the joy in our touch, or

has it become a part of the forgotten past?

May I have another dance, please?

So romantic it makes me sigh...and yes, dancing is a wonderful way to explore and connect, to get into a different world and enjoy.

Well done.
