Battered Box

By Robert T. Wood

Copyright © 2014 by Robert T. Wood

This old box

I’ve had it for years

Ever since I can remember

I’ve been peering out from this box

From two holes

The world has changed

Decades have passed

The box has weathered

Cracks and wrinkles mark its sides

But the contents remain the same

The exterior has aged

The contents remain the same

The exterior is no longer bright and pretty

The contents remain the same

The exterior no longer stands straight

The contents remain the same

The box is ridiculed and scorned

The box is now in the way

Although my vision is no longer clear and crisp

I still look out from the two holes

My box has grown old

My heart remains unchanged

Although wiser, the contents remain the same

You ae so right, the body ages but the spirit of most of us remains young. Lovely write.

As we age, the spirit does stay, pretty much the same. Nice analogy.
