Winter Skies

By Robert T. Wood

 Copyright © 2015 by Robert T. Wood

It’s been weeks since I’ve seen the setting sun

The low dark cloudy winter skies have taken their toll

All I see are different shades of gray against the snow

Unable to walk easily over the icy roads

It would be nice to go out and take a stroll

Today the sun showered its energy

Patchwork paths opened over the road

I went out and took a stroll

Just as it broke through the clouds

Shinning over the surrounding mountains

The golden skies added color to my world

Invigorated by the golden glow

I turned to witness my long shadow

Bordered by the golden light of the setting sun

Despite the icy breeze I could feel the warm flow

The bright glowing disc settled over the mountain peek

I felt lonely as I watched it sink

Surrounding clouds continue to glow

As shadows began to fade

I said a prayer as the energy of God vanished for the day

There is something lonely about the setting sun on a winter's day. I think it's the bleakness, quiet of winter. Time to get inside for a hot toddy by the fireplace.

Beautiful the glow of this poem.
Winter's solace to appear is marvelous.

Ahhh . . . It was good that you were at least able to get out and have your solitary walk. Too much time holed up inside can promote loneliness and the blues.
