I lay my head, with clamor, filled
A beehive my bedmate,
The din subside, the mundane spilled,
Alone with thee, my soul mate!

I reach to touch, to hold, to have
A chariot of sleep I ride,
But then I find, the balm, the salve
Not really at my side

I pause to loathe, the distance woes
And paths that fork and splinter,
Perhaps the seed that one sows
Bring about these winters

Wait! Tis thy sweet laugh I hear?
The silence now is breaking!
Can it be thy smile I see
That soothes my night hour aching?

Art thou truly here with me,
Or, mere past times recalled?
Yes, 'tis thee I hear and see,
Alas, within these walls!

Can height or depth, ever part
Those, true love has bound?
For in my heart I carry thee,
Tis' there, thou will be found.
