I sat next to this “girl next door” in my child psyc. class
She could've sat any place but she sat next to me for months
She was one of the easiest people to talk to I'd met
But I saw her at a club one night and asked for a dance
You'd think I'd asked her to make out in my car
She had a boyfriend in the Air Force and wanted to be true
I also had a girlfriend at home while in the Navy
She not only danced with other guys she went out with them
When I wrote to tell her that was fine with me
she had a hissy fit, insisting it wasn't my choice
Isn't going on a date worse than dancing with some one?
The girl next door never sat next to me again.
And I'd long since broken up with the steady who was't
I respect the girl who wouldn't even give a guy a chance
I hope she told the airdale what she'd done and I hope
their relationship developed into something more
But I have to ask: wasn't her reluctance a bit much?
I'm 74 now and I still remember that snub. It still hurts.
